Madlen is an accomplished young Canadian artist. Her masterful impressions are vibrant in colour, infused with warmth and character. In the past few years, she has participated in several artistic events and has been highly praised in her solo and group exhibitions.

She journeyed to Armenia for inspiration. She will exploit this marvelous experience for future paintings of her homeland and people.

The Rev. Fr. Meghrig Parikian selected her large painting (representing a miracle moment that occurred by a saint named Sourp Naregatzy) to be sent to the prestigious Catholicossate of the Great House of Cililia, Antelias, Lebanon.

A new name has been added to the list of Armenian-Canadian artists. Madlen Movsessian's first indicative exhibition took place on Sunday, May 26th at Sheraton Parkway Hotel in the Thornhill Room.

First I met Madlen approximately 18 years ago. She was new in Canada and also a freshman in the University of Toronto's Faculty of Visual Arts & Sciences. Even then I could see her love and passion towards art.

Right before the opening of the exhibition, we met Madlen and some friends at the entrance of the hall. We entered after the opening to see her 35 works of art. Each of them represents her courage and confidence in using the brush and colors, which reflects her own feelings and desires in the most lively and natural way.

The piano, painted with a Degas reproduction of a classical image of a dance stage during rehearsals, was simply outstanding.

She also has a collection of reproductive works from great artists such as Monet, Renoir and Benson, which again show her ability of using the colors in a powerful and confident way.
Madlen's talent was known even when she was only 13 years old back in Lebanon, where she was highly praised be Rev. Manuel Terzyan for her religious reproductive work. Later on she got the highest praise of His Holiness Patriarc for her second religious reproductive piece, which is now being kept in the Zmmar Museum in Lebanon.

Madlen has planned another exhibition to take place in June 2003 at The Kathleen Gormley McKay Art Gallery. She is also ready and a willing participate in different exhibitions within the community.

Wishing her the best of luck in her career and future plans.
Silvart Mikaelian
